Andrew Herrera is an MA candidate in the School of Writing, Literature, and Film. His thesis is focusing on the portrayal of violence, masculinity, and gender as a performance in three films by Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn, best known for his film Drive starring Ryan Gosling. The films explore and portray masculinity in slightly different ways, but all with violence at the core.
